OPEN CITY JAKARTA PAVILION
Commission 2010
The Pavilion is a representation of the informal and urban maze-like characteristics of the Kampung (urban village) executed on a micro-scale, where various functions and programs which are in this case exhibition content are blended into each other. We therefore used exclusively materials which one would encounter within an actual Kampung setting. The pavilion invites the visitors to explore while they navigate based on visual attractors i.e. the Wayangs (shadow puppets) and content as representation for various Kampung quarters. This happens in an add-hoc way rather than by a pre-perceived understanding of the spatial configuration.
